Dionaea: Venus Flytraps
Dionaea muscipula is endemic to a relatively small region of peaty savannas in southeastern North Carolina and north-eastern South Carolina. Note: indigenous species are native to a region but the same species can also occur in other regions. Endemic species are native to a region but are only found in that particular region.
In the wild, Dionaea often experiences frost during winter months and is thus considered a warm-temperate species. For this reason, in autumn it's customary to place potted flytraps in a cool location in order to trigger winter dormancy. This procedure is important, as the plants will exhibit increased vigor and produce larger traps than plants that are kept at a constant temperature year 'round.

During the growing season, flytraps need high light levels and should be kept constantly damp. Flytraps do well in a planting media consisting of 50/50 peat moss & coarse sand.
